Halifax County, North Carolina

LaPorte County Government

LaPorte County was formed in 1832. La porte comes from the French word, "the door." French travelers and explorers named the area after discovering a natural opening in the dense forests that used to exist in the region, providing a gateway to the lands further west.

City of Ventura

The City of Ventura is located between Malibu and Santa Barbara on the Pacific coast, overlooking Anacapa and Santa Cruz islands. People have lived along this stretch of the California coast for at least ten thousand years. San Buenaventura was founded in 1782 by Father Junipero Serra, naming it after the Italian St. Bonaventure. The City of San Buenaventura was incorporated in 1866. Ventura became the County seat when Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties split in 1873.
