Leake and Watts has been supporting the most vulnerable children, adults and families in the New York City metro area for nearly 185 years. Always focused on adapting our programs to meet the most pressing needs of families and communities, we are proud to support more than 8,000 individuals and their family members each year, in 40 separate programs at 22 locations. Our mission is to support children, adults and families. Working together, we create strong foundations for success. We are honored to have been named the 2014 Gold Winner of the prestigious New York Community Trust Nonprofit Excellence Awards. Leake & Watts supports children, adults and families through a wide range of child welfare, early childhood education, special education, juvenile justice and intellectual/developmental disabilities services programs. Our Preventive Services Program stabilizes at-risk families and prevents the need to place children in foster care, while our Family Foster Care Program serves children who have experienced abuse and neglect and our Mother & Child Program serves teen mothers in foster care along with their children. Our Residential Treatment Center provides 24-hour residential care to youth who require therapeutic and educational support and The Leake & Watts Biondi School provides year-round special education services for youth with emotional difficulties and severe academic deficits. Our Juvenile Justice Programs include a secure detention facility for court-involved youth and a Non-Secure Placement Program. Our Early Childhood Programs include child care for low-income families, Head Start and Early Head Start, preschool special education programs, Universal Prekindergarten and a Parent-Child Home Program. Our Developmental Disabilities Services include group homes, respite/recreation services, supportive employment, day services, and Medicaid Service Coordination.
