The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional government agency based in West Palm Beach, Fla. The agency`s core mission is to manage and protect water resources in 16 counties from Orlando to the Florida Keys by balancing and improving flood control, water quality, natural systems and water supply. It is the oldest and largest of the state`s five water management districts. The SFWMD manages and protects water resources on behalf of 8.1 million South Floridians, and is the lead agency in restoring America`s Everglades – the largest environmental project in the nation`s history.
The Army National Guard, also known as the National Guard, is one component of The Army (which consists of the Active Army, the Army National Guard, and the Army Reserve). The National Guard has a unique Dual Mission that includes both State and Federal roles. Each state, territory, and the District of Columbia has its own National Guard. Office of Personnel Management`s history begins with the Civil Service Act, signed in 1883, ending the spoils system and establishing the Civil Service Commission. The Commission, led by the energetic Teddy Roosevelt, laid the foundations of an impartial, professional civil service based on the merit principle – that employees should be judged only on how well they can do the job. In 1978, the Civil Service Commission was reorganized into three new organizations: the Office of Personnel Management, the Merit Systems Protection Board, and the Federal Labor Relations Authority. Each of these new organizations took over a portion of the Civil Service Commission’s responsibilities, with OPM responsible for personnel management of the civil service of the Government.
