Zaytuna College, the first Muslim liberal arts college in the United States, began in 1996 as Zaytuna Institute in Hayward, California, co-founded by Hamza Yusuf and Hesham Alalusi. During its early years in the San Francisco Bay Area, the institute, through its educational programs, publications, and productions, established an international reputation for its efforts to help revive Islam`s educational and intellectual legacy and to popularize traditional learning among Western Muslims. In 2004, noting the paucity of religious leaders with the cultural literacy to tend to the spiritual and pastoral needs of American Muslims, Zaytuna Institute launched a pilot seminary program. Under the guidance of Zaid Shakir, the program trained and graduated five students in 2008. After the culmination of the pilot program, the Board of Directors of Zaytuna Institute (later renamed the Board of Trustees of Zaytuna College) guided the organization through a seismic transition, with the goal of establishing an accredited Muslim institution of higher education in the United States. In 2009, Zaytuna College was launched in Berkeley, California, by Hatem Bazian, Zaid Shakir, and Hamza Yusuf. The Summer Arabic Intensive, a two-month, residential language course, was its first academic program. Subsequently, the undergraduate program welcomed its inaugural freshman class for the Fall 2010 semester.

Weatherford College enriches the lives of the students and communities it serves through innovative, affordable, and accessible learning and cultural opportunities. Established in 1869, Weatherford College can still lay claim to be the oldest continuing educational institution west of the Mississippi River. Its District consists of five counties – Parker, Palo Pinto, Hood, Jack and Wise. Weatherford College develops and maintains educational programs, student support services and activities appropriate to the needs of the communities served. The College provides programs that parallel the first two years of baccalaureate education, prepare students for vocational and professional degrees and provide valuable lifelong learning opportunities. Through its academic transfer and technical and career programs, Weatherford College has developed a national reputation for its academic standard and outstanding career programs. The instructors at Weatherford College include 129 full-time and about 143 adjunct faculty; 65 percent of the FTE is taught by full-time masters and doctorate holders. As the campus has continued to grow, so too has the student enrollment. The 2013 fall enrollment reached an all-time high at just over 5,700, made up of students from all over Texas, 32 other states and 23 foreign countries. The College strives to provide students with the right kind of environment to build strong foundations for future success. Our students transfer to universities and colleges throughout the United States and join the work force having received state-of-the art technical training. Through our partnerships with institutions such as the University of Texas at Arlington and Tarleton State University, to name a few, students may also pursue bachelor, master and doctorate degrees. The College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and many other program-specific accrediting authorities. As a publicly-supported, comprehensive community college and a member of the system of higher education, Weatherford College primarily serves the needs of its five-county service area through teaching, research, public service and learning.
