Founded in 1851, Jackson County is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Ranging in elevation from 2,000 feet to more than 6,000 feet, the county`s 491 square miles feature spectacular scenery and abundant opportunities for outdoor adventure. According to the 2010 census, Jackson County`s population is 40,271. Despite our rural location, we are not isolated. Jackson County is centrally located between Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, and Knoxville, TN, and Asheville NC is a pleasant one-hour drive away.
