The Village of Cordova is a small, quaint community located just a few miles north of the Quad-Cities on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River. Cordova maintains its warmth and charm even though we are just minutes away from such known places such as Exelon-Cordova Nuclear Power Plant and Cordova Dragway Park (drag strip), as well as several other surrounding businesses and manufacturing facilities. Locals believe the Mississippi river is heading upstream to its headwaters in Minnesota. This stretch includes Princeton Beach-possibly the premier river boating and recreation destination in the Bi-State area, which is located immediately adjacent to the Village of Cordova. Montgomery County, located in southwestern Virginia, is home for more than 99,000 residents in its nearly 400 square miles. Our community is known for its abundance of outdoor recreation offerings, including cycling and walking the Huckleberry Trail; hiking and exploring Pandapas Pond in the Jefferson National Forest; and floating and fishing on the New River. Two of the state`s five largest towns, Blacksburg and Christiansburg, are located in the county. As the retail hub of the county, Christiansburg hosts several shopping centers, entertainment venues, and restaurants. Blacksburg is home to Virginia Tech, one of the nation`s leading educational institutions and research universities, which is also known for its accomplishments in athletics as well as cultural and event offerings at the Moss Arts Center.
The Texas State legislature officially established Ellis County on December 20,1849 when it passed a bill sponsored by Gen. Edward H. Tarrant. It was drawn from Navarro County and is named for Richard Ellis, president of the Texas Constitutional Convention of 1836. County Seat Waxahachie was named the county seat and established on land donated by E. W. Rogers in August, 1850. William Hawkins was the first chief justice (county judge). Judge Oran Milo Roberts presided over the first term of the Ellis County district court during the fall of 1850.
