Founded in 1981, by artists for artists, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts supports todays artists through an international artist-in-residence program, temporary exhibitions and commissions, and innovative public programs. Located in the historic Old Market district, the Bemis Center serves a critical role in the presentation and understanding of contemporary art, bridging the community of Omaha to a global discourse surrounding cultural production today. Artist-in-Residence Program For more than three decades, the Bemis Center has provided artists from around the world dedicated time, space, and resources to conduct research and to create new work. Frequently cited as one of the top international residency programs, the Bemis Center offers artists private live/work studios, financial support, technical/administrative assistance, and opportunities for intellectual discourse about contemporary art through free public programs, such as panel discussions, lectures, and knowledge-sharing workshops. To date, nearly 900 artists have participated in the residency program. Exhibitions Program The Bemis Centers exhibition program features solo and group exhibitions of artwork in all media by local, national, and international artists. Exhibitions are always free, open to the public, and frequently introduce the community of Omaha to the most experimental and provocative art forms today. Public Programs Over the organizations 35-year history, the Bemis Center has offered artist-driven, community-responsive programs that bolster civic engagement in the creation and understanding of art. Ranging from public murals and artist-led classes and workshops, through ARTalks, workshops, Open Studio events, panel discussions, film screenings, and performances–the public has direct access to artists and to their diverse approaches to art making and interpreting the world around us.

Discovery Place operates Discovery Place and Charlotte Nature Museum and Discovery Place KIDS. As one of the leading hands-on science centers in the country, Discovery Place offers visitors the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a fun, interactive and informal setting. Located in one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas, Charlotte, N.C., Discovery Place offers a family-friendly experience surrounded by the excitement of a bustling urban community. Visitors also can get close to nature by visiting Charlotte Nature Museum, adjacent to Freedom Park and located in one of the community’s finest residential areas. Charlotte Nature Museum visitors may walk among free-flying butterflies, observe live animals, buzz around with insects or hang out in the natural world. Daily programming including puppet shows and hands-on activities provide the opportunity for structured learning and informal play for the young and old alike. The first Discovery Place KIDS museum opened in Huntersville, N.C., in October 2010 and is the first in a planned network of regional children’s museums. Providing an extraordinary and rich play experience that engages children’s imagination and inspires learning, the Museum is designed to serve children and their parents or caregivers. A second Discovery Place KIDS opened in Rockingham, N.C., in February 2013. Discovery Place also offers off-site educational experiences to community groups and schools throughout N.C. and S.C. through its ScienceReach program.
