The university can trace its beginning to 1891 when members of the Church of the Brethren, moving west to California, founded Lordsburg College. When the surrounding agricultural community of Lordsburg was renamed to La Verne in 1917, the institution followed suit and La Verne College was established. Founded in 1933, North Idaho College is a comprehensive community college located on the beautiful shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene. NIC offers more than 150 degrees and certificates in a wide spectrum of academic transfer and professional-technical programs. Approximately 6,700 students are enrolled in credit classes and nearly 6,000 participate annually in non-credit courses.
