Established in 1985, Alameda County Community Food Bank is a fast-growing, dynamic organization at the forefront of hunger‐relief efforts in the Bay Area. As one of the most efficient, direct-impact organizations in the country, few nonprofits are as well-respected – or make such an impact on the community – than us. The Food Bank ranks among the top 2% of nonprofits nationwide by Charity Navigator and was recently voted “Best Charity in the East Bay” by East Bay Express. The Food Bank serves 116,000 people each month – primarily children and seniors – and distributes enough food for 25 million meals through our innovative programming and our extensive network of 240 food pantries, soup kitchens and other community partner organizations. Habitat for Humanity of Wake County builds safe, affordable houses for qualified homebuyers regardless of race, religion or background. Each Habitat home is built in partnership with homeowner families, sponsors, and volunteers. Our houses are safe, decent, affordable homes which are sold for no profit to the partner family who repays an affordable mortgage. Homeowners attend a series of workshops on financial literacy and home maintenance so they are well prepared to be homeowners. Changing a plot of dirt into a house is dramatic, but the real change is what happens when a family transitions out of poverty housing. At Habitat for Humanity, our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Affordable homeownership makes new opportunities available to these families and their children, including savings, a sense of security, space to grow, and good neighbors.
