But behind those trees is a bustling community filled with nearly 18,000 great people, twenty-five named lakes, a rural atmosphere and a friendly smile. But with the millions of vehicles passing through The Charter Township of Brighton each year a serene peaceful co-existence has been achieved. The Charter Township of Brighton most prominent manmade feature is its expressways. Over twelve miles of expressway that serve the major population centers of Michigan are in our township. I-96, connecting the Metro Detroit area with Lansing and Grand Rapids , crosses US 23 which connects Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti with Flint, Saginaw and Bay City. They cross right here. We are truly 'at the crossroads of Michigan' We are a "Charter Township" that derives its authority from state law.
