The Boone County Democratic Central Committee represents the Missouri Democratic Party in Boone County and performs such functions required by the laws of the State of Missouri, the Charter and By-Laws of the Democratic Party of the United States, and the Constitution and By-Laws of the Missouri Democratic Party. The objective of the Central Committee is to encourage among all voters and citizens of Boone County, Missouri an active interest in governmental affairs; to increase the efficiency of popular government; to foster and perpetuate the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party; to encourage and develop leadership in the Democratic Party; to encourage party responsibility; and to maintain and promote harmony in the Democratic Party rank and file. The Central Committee promotes the interest of the Democratic Party and its candidates over those of the opposing candidates and political parties. The Boone County Democratic Central Committee meets the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Boone County Government Center on Walnut Street (Click herefor a map). The NC Department of Insurance regulates the insurance industry, licensing insurance professionals and others, educating consumers about different types of insurance, handling consumer complaints, and much more. The Department also houses the Office of State Fire Marshal. Any insurance business in this state first must be approved by the Commissioner, and companies and agents must meet rigorous standards before they receive a license to do that business. We also provide other services not directly associated with insurance: • Licensing bail bondsmen • Overseeing motor clubs and collection agencies • Protecting consumers from fraud and illegal behavior with a staff of sworn law enforcement officers in our Investigations Division • Educating North Carolinians about safety issues such as child safety seats, fire protection, natural disaster preparation and other family safety issues • Interpreting the state`s building codes and suggesting new and improved codes to further protect citizens • Obtaining and maintaining insurance coverage for all state-owned buildings, including such items as the Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington and the campuses of the state university system • Assisting the elderly and others with Medicare and Medicaid questions through our nationally recognized Seniors` Health Insurance Information Program Overall, we strive to provide high quality service to North Carolinians across the state.
The Maryland Office of People`s Counsel (OPC), created in 1924, is the oldest utility consumer advocacy office of its kind in the United States. The People`s Counsel is appointed by the Attorney General, with the advice and consent of the Senate, and acts independently of the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Office of Attorney General. OPC is a State of Maryland agency, yet works independently to represent Maryland`s residential consumers of electric, natural gas, telecommunications, private water and certain transportation matters before the PSC, federal regulatory agencies and the courts. Every day OPC`s staff members address issues affecting the cost, quality of service and adequate supply of these utility services. As such OPC`s advocacy touches the lives of every resident of Maryland. OPC functions primarily as a law office, employing a staff of 19, and retains expert consultants to provide technical assistance and expert testimony. These consultants are highly qualified accounting, engineering and economic experts who provide technical assistance, prepare reports and appear as expert witnesses before the PSC and federal agencies. These experts are absolutely critical to OPC`s ability to represent consumers. Because it is a state agency, funding for OPC is included in the state budget proposed by the Governor and approved by the General Assembly. However, the State`s General Fund is fully reimbursed for OPC`s expenses from revenue collected in the Public Utility Regulation Fund. These revenues are collected from all regulated utility companies and licensed energy suppliers.
