The commitment goes back to Thanksgiving Day in 1895 when the Will County Union of King`s Daughters and Sons opened the doors of a 33-bed hospital in Joliet named after their emblem the Maltese cross. And year after year, Silver Cross has been acknowledged as one of American`s Friendliest Hospitals because we treat patients the way they should be treated and for our dedication to patient safety with an “A” Hospital Safety Score from the Leapfrog Group. The mission of providing quality healthcare continues today with a remarkable 296-bed replacement hospital, which opened in 2012. All patient rooms are private—accommodating today`s medical technology and ultimately reducing unnecessary transfers and the risk of infection and injury. The hospital`s unique design creates efficiencies between departments and promotes an environment that helps patients heal faster. Our 158-acre New Lenox campus includes three medical/office buildings, University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center, and an ambulatory care center opening in fall 2017. The hospital also has plans to build a 100-bed Behavioral Health Hospital to open in 2019. Over the years, Silver Cross has developed an extensive ambulatory network throughout the region that includes five satellite facilities with the independent services of many physicians and an array of outpatient services such as diagnostic imaging and rehabilitation.
