Montachusett Regional Transit Authority

The Montachusett Regional Transit Authority (‘MART’) is one of Massachusetts’ 15 regional transit authorities.  ‘MART’ is located in North Central Massachusetts and encompasses parts of Northern Worcester and Western Middlesex Counties.  ‘MART’ provides public transportation to 22 area cities and towns.  They include the cities of Fitchburg, Gardner, and Leominster and the towns of Athol, Ashburnham, Ashby, Ayer, Bolton, Boxborough, Hardwick, Harvard, Hubbardston, Lancaster, Littleton, Lunenburg, Royalston, Shirley, Sterling, Stow, Templeton, Westminster, and Winchendon. ‘MART’ operates a fleet of 26 buses, 177 vans, and 2 trolley replica buses.  We provide 16 fixed-route bus services, 2 shuttle services, and a paratransit service to the region.  We operate and maintain the parking facilities on the MBTA Fitchburg commuter rail line.  We operate the Fitchburg Intermodal Transportation Center located in downtown Fitchburg and we are building a new North Leominster Intermodal Transportation Center located on Nashua Street in Leominster.  We have also begun work on the new Wachusett Station which will be located near the intersection of Route 2 and Route 31 in West Fitchburg. ‘MART’ is striving to make our transit authority more environmentally friendly.  Our investment has continued with the addition of more hybrid buses to our existing hybrid fleet, as well as installing solar panels on our Water Street facility. We work with the local communities within the region to offer attractive options to travel with ‘MART’.  We provide discounts to the elderly, disabled, veterans, and students. ‘MART’ accepts the MBTA’s Charlie Card fare card.  ‘MART’ is one of 8 Massachusetts transit authorities that use the Charlie Card.  This means that ‘MART’ customers can add value to their Charlie Card and use their card to travel throughout the Commonwealth.  ‘MART’ also offers a Monthly Pass and a 14-Consecutive Day Pass so you can travel as much as you would like for one flat fee.
