Our Mission: The mission of the ACLU of Delaware is to preserve and advance civil liberties and civil rights in the State of Delaware as enshrined in the United States and Delaware Constitutions through education and advocacy without consideration of political association. The defense of civil liberties knows no political party bounds, which is why the ACLU remains nonpartisan. We have joined in coalitions with conservatives and progressives alike on a wide array of issues—from reforming the intrusive powers of the Patriot Act to blocking infringements upon our First Amendment rights. The ACLU is the premier civil rights organization in our country, earning widespread respect and admiration for its consistent defense of constitutionally based principles. We work in the courts, in the state and federal legislatures, and at the grassroots level to defend the Constitution wherever it is threatened. The ACLU-DE, the local affiliate of the national ACLU, was established in 1961. We are a first resort when the government threatens our rights in Delaware and a last hope when we are deprived of our liberties. ACLU-DE has played an important role in Delaware history, especially in the arena of education: - In 1975, ACLU-DE, under the leadership of Gerry Kandler, prevailed on the State of Delaware to provide children with physical and intellectual handicaps full access to education. These efforts help spur educational equality throughout the country. - ACLU-DE also played a significant role that led to the desegregation of schools in the City of Wilmington in the 1980`s. This action also had an impact on desegregation nationally. - In the 1990`s, the ACLU-DE was instrumental in reforms to the Ferris School for Boys, which is now a national model as a state-of-the-art juvenile secure care facility.

Although frequently referred to as an island, Coronado is actually a peninsula connected to San Diego to the east by the San Diego-Coronado Bridge and to Imperial Beach to the south by State Highway 75. To promote economic vitality and strength in Coronado; to be a leading public policy advocate for business in Coronado; to provide valuable services to our members; and, to fully participate and partner in initiatives that protect and improve the quality of life in Coronado.
KSI is a private, non-profit vocational rehabilitation organization that provides employment and training services to individuals with intellectual, mental, physical, and emotional disabilities who reside in Kent, Sussex, and lower New Castle Counties in Delaware. KSI`s mission is to provide person-centered supports to assist people with disabilities in the pursuit of their potential in employment and meaningful participation in their communities. In pursuing our mission, we provide a wide array of services to our program participants, including vocational training and employment, transportation to and from service locations, a nutritional services program, and adaptive living skills training. KSI as an organization believes that work, and the opportunity to contribute and grow as a person, is important to all people, especially people with disabilities. Work in our society helps to give our lives purpose and meaning. Work also allows us to learn and be successful, and to interact with people in the pursuit of common goals or outcomes. Work also allows people to earn a wage, which creates opportunities for choice, education, recreation, and socialization. In addition, work allows us a chance to discover talents and skills we never knew we had. This is what KSI does for the people we serve. KSI was founded on June 11, 1962 under the name "Golden Opportunity Center, Inc." The agency, located in a 500 square foot facility on Rt. 13 in Dover, served a grand total of 6 participants. The program was begun with a grant from DFRC. KSI is now in a position not only to provide rehabilitation and employability training for people with disabilities, but also employment, supported employment, job placement, door-to-door transportation, day habilitation, and nutritional services at no cost to our participants. KSI currently serves 260+ individuals annually.
