Amber Kinetics

Amber Kinetics is a vertically integrated manufacturer/project developer of grid-scale flywheel energy storage solution. Our advanced steel flywheel technology is the world’s first cost-effective, 4-hour flywheel energy storage system for utility-scale applications. As developers/manufacturers, we are able to provide value added design flexibility at each step in the project development process to create high-value, bankable projects for utilities, large energy consumers, and independent power producers. Our proprietary Amber Gen-2 Flywheel Systems© store electricity as rotational kinetic energy using an electric motor-generator to accelerate (charge) and decelerate (discharge) the flywheel. The flywheel’s energy is stored in a high-strength steel rotor designed with significant safety margins for safe, reliable operation for more than 30 years. Unlike other flywheel competitors, Amber Gen-2 Flywheel Systems© are capable of a charge/discharge duration of four hours, enabling the technology to be used for flexible peaking capacity and resource adequacy, in addition to ancillary services and load ramping. Amber Gen-2 Flywheel Systems© can be grouped together in modular Energy Blocks. Each Energy Block is a self-contained 40′ reinforced steel storage container rated for 80 kW | 320 kWh of storage capacity. Housed within each Energy Block are Amber Gen-2 Flywheel Systems© an inverter for each flywheel, and associated electronics.
