Western Kentucky University is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a city with a population of 63,500, and located approximately 110 miles south of Louisville and 65 miles north of Nashville, Tennessee. U.S. Highway 31-W and Interstate 65 intersect with U.S. Highways 68 and 231 at Bowling Green, and the Cumberland and William H. Natcher parkways provide additional easy highway access to Bowling Green. WKU`s undergraduate division provides four-year programs leading to bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, bachelor of interdisciplinary studies, bachelor of music, bachelor of science, bachelor of science in nursing, and bachelor of social work degrees. There are 101 academic majors and 108 academic minors available. Additionally, 36 undergraduate certificate programs are offered. WKU also offers the specialist degree, Rank I and Rank II programs, and doctoral programs in Educational Leadership, Nursing Practice, Physical Therapy, and Applied Psychology. Lincoln College, chartered Lincoln University in 1865, is a private, liberal arts college, fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. The College`s roots date back to December 1864. After investigating several sites, commissioners selected Lincoln, Illinois as the location for a new university. On February 6, 1865, a charter for the new university was secured from the Illinois General Assembly. Just six days later, on Abraham Lincoln`s last living birthday, ground was broken for University Hall, the first college building. The foundation was completed and the cornerstone laid by September 1865, and instruction for men and women began that November. The first commencement in 1868 honored three graduates. Since then, Lincoln College has taken its place among the pioneer educational institutions of the Midwest, and serves students at the Lincoln, IL campus, and at it`s satellites in Normal, Oglesby, and Peoria.
