Allen Wayne Burnett is a Silver Spring, MD-based company in the Non-profit sector.
According to the Population Council's founder, John D. Rockefeller 3rd, the reason to care about population is "to improve the quality of people's lives, to help make it possible for individuals everywhere to develop their full potential." Throughout its history, the Council's unique role has been to conduct biomedical, social science, and public health research and disseminate evidence to shape more effective policies, programs, and technologies that improve lives around the world. Our more than 600 staff members from 33 countries in 18 offices conduct research and implement programs in more than 50 countries around the world (see where we work). Working with governments and civil society organizations, they combine excellence in demographic studies, operations research, technical assistance, basic biomedical research on reproductive physiology and HIV, and the development of new contraceptives and products to prevent the transmission of HIV. We also improve the research capacity of reproductive and population scientists in developing countries through grants, fellowships, and support of research centers.
Heartspring is a worldwide center for children with special needs. Our mission, in partnership with parents, professionals and the community, is to help children with special needs grow and learn on a path to a more independent life. The goal for all Heartspring School students is to transition them to a less restrictive setting whether that be home, a group setting or the public school setting. Heartspring teaches the life skills that children need to become active members of society. Heartspring Pediatric Services strives to positively impact the lives of children with special needs through outpatient therapies that include occupational, physical and speech therapies and psychology services. Together with the child, parents and therapists, individual programs are implemented to help children attain their potential.
Builders of Hope is an established and innovative leader in affordable housing and urban renewal. Since our founding in 2006, we have successfully created and rebuilt neighborhoods by providing workforce housing through the reuse of existing inventory. Builders of Hope saves homes slated for demolition and recycles them using our patent-pending “Extreme Green Rehabilitation” model for residential construction. This process creates beautiful, healthier homes that are energy efficient and less costly to maintain. Additionally, through the Upcycle program, Builders of Hope transforms foreclosed, vacant properties into energy efficient, affordable rentals for working-class Americans. Each city that Builders of Hope is invited to has unique challenges and features, but the goal remains the same: return these communities to safety, stability and vitality.
