The Sisters of Bon Secours were founded in 1824 to respond to the needs of those who were sick and dying in Paris by providing health care to them in their homes. Through their care, they believed that they were bringing God`s healing, compassion and liberation to those in need by helping to alleviate their suffering and bringing a message of hope and assurance that there is a God who loves them. The first three Sisters of Bon Secours arrived in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1881, and established their first hospital in 1919. By 1980, the Sisters had established or assumed responsibility for several Catholic hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other health care services. The Sisters formed Bon Secours Health System in 1983 to provide skilled, unified management and professional resources for all their health care operations while preserving their Catholic tradition of providing quality care to all, especially to those who are poor, sick and dying.
Founded in 1967, Integral Care prides itself on providing quality, community-based services for Travis County residents with brain-based disorders. Integral Cares historical beginning marked the first time that public, community-based behavioral health and intellectual disabilities services became available, known as community centers. Integral Care was known as the Austin Travis County Mental Health Mental Retardation Center until September 2009, when its name was changed to reflect evolving attitudes and terminology and to honor the dignity of people who seek our services. As of November 2011, Integral Care was accredited by the Joint Commission, ensuring Integral Cares continuous quality improvement and standard of services. Integral Care was also awarded the CEO Cancer Gold Standard accreditation in November 2011 for its commitment to employee health, taking extensive, concrete actions in key areas of health and wellness to fight cancer in the workplace. In 2013, Integral Care was awarded National Council for Behavioral Healths Community Impact Award for Mental Health First Aid. Integral Cares programs are administered through the following service areas: Adult Behavioral Health, Child and Family, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Psychiatric Crisis Services and Jail Diversion. Services can include psychiatric evaluations, 24-hour crisis interventions, medication treatment, inpatient treatment, employment and vocational services, service coordination, family support and respite care, housing, information and referral, supported living and residential services. Integral Care also provides community services in homes, on the streets or at other sites as needed.
