Reporting to the COO, AltSchool`s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for AltSchool`s marketing team. S/He will continue to build out AltSchool`s brand strategy, brand vision and the consequent marketing roadmap and execution plan to support our business lines in attracting families and partnerships. S/He will drive both incremental improvement and visionary transformation across our marketing operations. The CMO will be instrumental in progressing AltSchool`s business growth in both our first party schools and future partnerships. S/He will be expected to join as a key member of senior management, to serve as a liaison to external partners, and to collaborate with our board of directors and investors.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and enable team to execute on visionary, integrated marketing strategy that includes web, social, advertising, content program, and demand generation.
• Build out the overarching brand framework for AltSchool that incorporates our mission and end-state: to provide a personalized, universally accessible, high-quality, whole-child education to every child via a technology-enabled network.
• Drive engagement and consumer response to our current two business lines: 1) our own full-stack first-party schools, and 2) our technology and services to third-party schools.
• Continue to build our brand awareness, buzz and resonance and enable the framework and strategy whereby all external communication supports consistent positioning, tone, and messaging.
• Encourage bottoms-up processes to drive goal setting and reliability of execution.
• Refine and grow a project management system for tracking and reporting on ongoing programs and consumer response and insights.
• Publicly represent AltSchool with the media and external constituency groups including community, governmental, and private organizations to build excitement around AltSchool`s mission and role.
Requirements:
• Minimum BS/BA degree with 15+ years of experience and a track record as a senior leader in marketing; ideally with experience as both a senior leader in both early and later stage companies
• Proven ability to set a vision, develop strategic plans, and gain stakeholder approval, with expertise in all areas of marketing strategy development
• Ability to point to specific examples of having led complex and transformative marketing projects
• Demonstrated success at building best-in-class, aspirational brands
• Led brand-building in consumer technology (ideally both B2C and B2B)
• Understand competitive landscape and capable of developing compelling, differentiating value propositions in response
• Experience in identifying target audiences and devising campaigns that engage, inform and motivate
• Experience in a high-growth company
• Able to navigate the demands of both a growing business and larger cultural mission
• Highly conversant in hypothesis-driven, data-informed approach
• Able to drive alignment and cross-functional coordination
• Embraces Kaizen approach (continuous improvement)
• Experience in messaging across multiple high-stakes constituencies
• Proven leader with the ability to coach senior staff to manage and build/develop a high-performance marketing team

This is a full-time position based in San Francisco; occasional travel may be required
